Blizzard watch

Did you enjoy the videos from yesterday?

We only received 3 inches of snow overnight.  I've gotten it all scooped out of the way.  However, and it is a big however, we are predicted to get 18 more inches here in the foothills between tonight and Tuesday.

Only 48 more days til spring, and counting.

Two videos to help you enjoy your weekend. A major snowstorm is on the way..

Nature Rx part 1, a prescription for your weekend.

I was fortunate enough to help train this service dog.  He and his client graduated a year ago.  This is what service dogs do in their time off to have fun.  All work and no play would make Ripple a dull boy.

Just have fun

I decided to run last weekend's Houston Chevron marathon after all.  I had been sick and was under-trained, but I was there and already registered.   The bling always calls out to me.  So I decided to just have fun, to consider it a training run, and run as far as I could.
I followed the precepts of John "The Penguin" Bingham who says that the slowest runners have the best time and get the most for their money.  I zigged and zagged responding to every high-five, I punched every "punch this button for power" poster, I read every sign, and I walked at every water stop and thanked the volunteers. (The "Smile if you peed a little" signs always make me smile.")
It was fun.  It is a low-altitude flat course, although not particularly scenic.
I finished in 5:47.  My cough wasn't too bad, but my nose ran faster than I did.  I should have carried a box of tissues with me.

Starting line

Mile 25
Illness-wise, I probably should have skipped it, but I finished. That is worth a lot, and there is always a next time to be better trained and well. Never give up.  There are big shoes to fill. That's my motto,

Runner's body

I am still sick so not doing much running lately, and only on the treadmill where it is warm and not icy.  I will have to miss my race this upcoming weekend, but I signed up for another in May.  If I ever get over this dratted cough, I'll get back at it.
(Still packing running gear for my trip......just in case.,,,hope never dies even in the face of the dratted cough that won't leave.)

RIP David Bowie, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring."

"This is major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."

Cute video

I thought we all could use a cute video on such a dark, snowy, frigid Friday.
I will have to bite the bullet soon and take the dog for a short walk.  At least so far today I don't have the problem with not being able to get warm, so maybe I am slightly on the mend.  Scooping snow will just have to wait until tomorrow.

I just realized the meaning of  "3 dog night" (like the name of the sixties musical group).

In the old days of no central heating, a night so cold it took 3 dogs sleeping with you to keep you warm enough.

Today is definitely at least a 1 dog day.

"It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!"---Rocky Balboa

I'm sick and getting sicker, a rare occurrence....probably from lack of sleep and eating "differently" over the holidays. That'll teach me!  It is a turmeric tea, miso soup, and long hot bath with epsom salts kind of day.  I shall feel better presently.
This is my excuse for lack of posts.  Plus winter is back, 8-10 inches of snow and frigid temps are on their way.
I needed a Rocky quote today.

I spent the day reading "As You Wish, Inconceivable Tales From the Making of The Princess Bride" by Cary Elwes.  This is a wonderful book to read when sick, just as when Peter Falk as Grandfather read the original book to his sick grandson, Fred Savage.
 The end
The Grandson: Grandpa, maybe you could come over and read it again to me tomorrow.
Grandpa: As you wish.

I will get there! Even though I don't know where there is yet, but I will.

Last week I was honored by my local running store (Boulder Running Company Littleton) as Runner of the Year for 2015.  I received a new TomTom GPS watch and this cool statue. I am humbled.  There are so many really deserving runners there.  I am a turtle still.  This motivates me to try harder this next year, to do more, accomplish more.  I've been slacking off a bit since Thanksgiving....cold and dark days do that to me every year....but no more. I have to live up to this honor.  I have big shoes to fill.
I love the running family I have met there.  Collette, store manager and chief cheerleader, wants BRC to be the "Cheers" of running stores.  It is all that and more.
If I can do it, believe me that anyone can.

2016, Bring it on.

And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been.
                                              Rainer Maria Rilke

     Happy New Year all.

I started the New Year with 60 other crazies doing a scavenger hunt in 7 degree weather.  Believe it or not, I got too hot by the end.  Pancakes afterwards.  Food and prizes including a pair of shoes, which I did not win, all provided by Adidas. What a great way to start the year.
