Happy spring...

The great blue heron is back. What a beautiful start to the weekend.  Happy Easter all!

Here is another excellent interview with Dr. Zach Bush.  (unfortunately it cuts off early but it is still well worth watching). The future of medicine is here.

Wayne Dyer once said, "You cannot stop the forward motion of an idea whose time has come."

I read the above quote in an article about the amazing young activists that have come forward in the past month.  Leadership has been thrust upon them and they have taken up the mantle.  They are too awesome for words.....charismatic, well-spoken, organized, committed.

In case you missed it, these are the odds that a gun will kill the average American.  They are much higher than you might think.

Will your child be next?

Regarding yesterday's nationwide "March for our Lives,"  this was such a peaceful positive event.  These child-leaders give me more hope for the future of America than I've had in two years!  They want change and are promoting it through voting, activism, and running for office.  With their leadership, this may happen. There were over 100,000 like minded children, teens, parents, and grandparents at that event who will be voting to make change happen.

On my way back to the lightrail I did see this. I couldn't tell if they were militarized police or national guard or what.  I can only hope they were there to prevent any problems had some gun-nut counterprotesters shown up, and to protect this peaceful group.

I will never forget all the little children holding signs, "am I next?"

Or, "How many lives would have been saved had the shooter (insert name here) had to stop to reload?"

As Tom Mauser, parent of one of the Columbine victims, said:   this is their generation's Viet Nam.

     The signs were amazing

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

Official aerial photo of Denver's "March for our lives"

     Moving, inspirational, heart-breaking

Today is the nationwide "March for our Lives."  I'll be there at Denver's March.  This has to stop, and we must support the young activists who may finally make change happen.

More doctors are prescribing food as medicine. Yay! And dogs get a "runner's high," too.

     Great news!

Dogs get a runner's high, too, but as in people, walking does not have the same effect.  Take your dog with you when you run.

I just learned of an interesting topic:  gluten and leptin resistance.  This info has been around for a while and I first read about it last night.  I'll have to do more research.  Meanwhile, you can do a google search or pubmed search on gluten and leptin resistance.

Sodium and auto-immune disease exacerbation

I found this research article very interesting.  Giving up other inflammatory foods such as sugar, oil, meat, dairy, eggs, white flour, wasn't a problem for me.  Cutting back on salt is more difficult but I am a work-in-progress.  This is so important now that we know that most diseases have an inflammatory component.

“May the road rise up to meet you [and] may the wind always be at your back.” – Old Irish Blessing

...........and maybe a green beer or two.

When Irish eyes are smiling
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing
When Irish hearts are happy
All the world seems bright and gay
And when Irish eyes are smiling
Sure, they steal your heart away

“Lá fhéile Pádraig sona dhuit!

PS, Had colcannon for dinner tonight.  There must be more than a little Irish in me as I really loved it.

If you watched the Rich Roll/Dr. Zach Bush podcast I linked a few days ago, you will want to watch this one as well .... Dr Zach Bush on gut health and the microbiome. Fascinating info for anyone interested in illness and promoting wellness.

Note to self.....It is impossible to outrun a bad diet.

You can't outrun your fork.

Never outsource your nutrition to an amateur.

Eat to win.

Eat to live, don't live to eat.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Hippocrates

Can you tell that I am really trying to dial in my nutrition for my marathon training?  I have finished the past couple of long runs, but am much too slow to finish in the time limit right now.  I hope the nutrition helps and all I can do is keep at it.
I have been watching Rich Roll podcasts lately. They are always informative. His March 11th podcast with Dr. Zach Bush was truly eye-opening.  His podcasts are long.....this one is 1 hr, 42 min....but well worth your time.  Why has there been such an explosion of disease in the USA since the 90's?  Here is an answer. I love following the science and the research. It is especially important now in an era of science-deniers and flat-earthers.  Science is real.

As a kid, I loved Roy Rogers.  My very first lunch box was of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. (I still remember the names of their horses, Bullet and Buttermilk, and their jeep, Nellybelle).  I wonder, do they still have Auctioneers like this today?

Happy Birthday DCJ.

I happened to read the below quote this morning.  It was Dean's favorite.  Serendipity.

A new sign went up this morning at the elementary school crossing half a block from my house.

“How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” ― Maya Angelou

Happy International Day of Women.

We shouldn't need one day to remind us of the value of women around the world.  We need to celebrate them every day of the year.

On a related note, I'm sure you're familiar with this song either from the Oscars or from seeing the movie, but it has been stuck on repeat in my brain all week.  I wake up during the night with it there. It does seem somewhat appropriate for celebrating all women and all people today, plus there are worse songs to have stuck in your head.  It makes me want to dance.

We are bursting through the barricades.
We are warriors.
Yeah, that's what we've become.
We are glorious.

There is nothing we're not worthy of.

At last

The AMA tells hospitals to ban meat and dairy!  Let's hope this actually happens.  I was listening to a cardiologist's podcast last week and he mentioned how devastating it was to see a cardiac patient post-stent eating bacon and eggs.  Hospitals need to do better, to be the solution instead of part of the problem.

March Madness

Someone on a FB group I am part of, posted this March Madness Challenge which I decided to take on.  I will have to modify some things....i.e. beginners Burpees (Burpees are my nemesis). You may want to challenge yourself with this, as well.  Let's see how we do.

It's a new month....

Stupid NYC!

Once again I didn't get through their marathon lottery. Only like 11% of entrants get picked in the lottery so I wasn't really expecting it, but was hoping. I'll keep trying every year and one day I'll get in to this bucket list event.  This was my third try.
Now to think of a fall replacement race.
