Amerithon virtual run/walk completed!

I started this virtual challenge on July 4th of last year.  I've walked 1429.3 miles, and run 2093.2 miles to cross the country in just under a year.
I have to say that this challenge has gotten me to exercise more every day, and do more walking.  I will, on my own, continue to track my running miles to see just how much longer it will take me to cross the country if I only count running mileage.  I'm guessing it'll take another 9 mo. or so.

The medal was finally earned!

So much inspiration....

It's Okay

I re-read this beautiful quote today, and had to re-share.

Peeper

We caught this beautiful peeping-tom peering in the windows of the elementary school by my house.  I wonder what caught her eye? Or maybe, she was just envying the air-conditioning.  It is a hot one today.

Meal-prepping

I'm a meal-prepper and always have been.  I love cooking, but not every day.  Here is good info on the subject.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/meal-prepping-may-actually-be-sabotaging-your-diet_us_59512f64e4b0326c0a8d0a1f?utm_campaign=hp_fb_pages&utm_source=main_fb&utm_medium=facebook&ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063

I no longer store anything in plastic.  I am using less foods that come in cans (i.e. tomatoes and beans).  I recently got an Instant-pot (an electric pressure cooker) to make beans from dried rather than buying in cans.  I'm a work in progress. As the article states, "cutting chemicals out of your life is a journey, not a race."

It is difficult to remain positive in this political climate.

45, et al, are systematically demolishing everything America is supposed to stand for and trying their best to kill off the poor, the sick, the middle class, all minorities, children, the elderly, and our national parks.  And now, they are removing the clean water rule.  Who doesn't want unpolluted water for Americans?
But I'm trying my best to remain positive that things will change. It usually doesn't work, but I try.

It's a mess, but it's my mess.

And intelligent people have the messiest desks. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

An oldie, but goody, quote......

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Everyone’s an athlete. The only difference is that some of us are in training, and some are not.”

– Dr. George Sheehan, physician, author, and runner

Contaminated meat

I found this interesting.  Contaminated meat tripped a positive drug test for an American Runner.  The meat was contaminated with zeranol, a growth hormone used in US meat. They took away her record and race prizes. Eating American meat is another thing athletes need to avoid!

Amerithon virtual run/walk across the USA

On 6-5-17 I reached the Huckleberry Trail, a railroad between Blacksburg and Christiansburg, that was converted to a nature path in 1966.

6-14-17 I'm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I'm anxious to finish this.

Revel pics just arrived

Working hard

Working harder

Last quarter mile is uphill.....cruel!!!

But I finished!

Today is one of those days to ignore all the news, political, and otherwise.  It is cumulatively too depressing.

LOL. Funny, but true.

(Your Grandkids, too)

Revel Rockies

Proof

Some of team Johnny and the Jets

It was a pretty good race.  We all finished. I came in 4th of 10 in my age group. At mile 8 or 9 the fastest marathoners started passing us half-marathoners, and they were speedy!  The marathon winner, Grant Bell, won in 2:23; he then stayed at the finish line and congratulated all the finishers.  What a nice guy.

And here we are in Evergreen at 5AM on 6-11, pre-race

Race morning

Once again I'm up by 2am.  I'm the crazy person out walking her dog at 3am, in case you were wondering why.  There is a full moon, which is beautiful; a plus.  It is already (still) hot out, which doesn't bode well for a race in a canyon, which soaks up all the solar energy the Colorado sun has to offer, though.  The minus. It will get to the 90s again today.
Wish team "Johnny and the Jets" well.

(P.S. they gave us space blankets and gloves at the race expo yesterday, LOL!  We aren't going to be needing them this morning.)

All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better.----Ralph Waldo Emerson

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Someday I know there’ll be a finish line, but not yet, I hope.”

Saturday, June 10, 2017

Those of us in yellow shirts are on the Johnny and the Jets team for tomorrow's Revel Rockies half, a run from Evergreen down to Morrison.  It is going to be a hot one.

Goal:

I will not let age change me.  I will change the way I age.

Isn't it nice that 45 has made our country irrelevant to the world in just 4 months?  I am amazed how one "man" can bring down an entire country in such a short time.  China must be thrilled to take over international leadership.
And what about all the job creation that renewable energy would bring?  Why forego jobs?
