On a personal note, I'm supposed to run a race in 1 week but a nagging chronic injury has become severe.  I'm hobbling around just walking.  Here's hoping a week of rest helps, otherwise I may very well become a bystander.  Damn.

Here is an excellent article from the Atlantic re Brett Kavanaugh's appeal to Republicans. He is a member of the good ole boys' club and will keep their secrets and help hide all of their dirty laundry. He even has indicated that Trump himself is part of his "club."

re Kavanaugh

Shared from Facebook from a post by Larisa Horton.  This is so perceptive, so well written.
I think understand now why I am so upset about this case. I tried to sleep last night and all I kept thinking is why are they trying to "ram him" through despite the majority of the country and the majority of women saying "no," and "please stop," and "wait".... and in that very question I found the answer. It was so simple and so alarming.
They are literally playing out on the national stage and in real time what it feels like to be overpowered. They won't take no for an answer. They won't listen or slow down. They won't stop. The more we say no, the more angry they get. The more we ask them to stop, the more entitled they feel. This is, I think, is what is affecting me and countless other women.
We are being overpowered despite us being in the majority and asking rightfully that they stop or wait. They are saying no and the more we beg, the more aggressive they are getting. Until finally, they plan on "ramming" through his nomination while we are supposed to just take it.
This is what is affecting me. This is - I think - what is affecting most women. This overpowering, entitled and demeaning attack on our body politic.
Us: Please stop
Them: No
Us: Wait
Them: No
Us: STOP
Them: NOOOOOOOOO
Us: Crying
Them: Angry, yelling, ramming
This is why I am upset.

If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking.

I watched the movie "RBG" last night.  Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a truly remarkable, inspirational woman. I highly recommend this documentary.

What if....

Those pesky Golden Rule and Thou Shall Not Kill rules coming back to bite you.

Excellent quote. Adults in America today need to be reminded of this.

Why do bees stay in their hives in winter? Swarm.

It's silly, I know, but it's all I got today.  Have a great weekend and first day of autumn.  The heat wave has finally ended and we have normal temps.  Yay.

100 years ago everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars.

Today everyone owns cars and only the rich own horses.

The stables have turned.

What do you call the last person to finish a marathon? A marathon FINISHER!

Something to remember when the fear gets in your head about any competition.

My last long "run" was today.  I ended up hiking more than I ran. I tripped numerous times but only fell once.  I may lose a few toenails from all the toe stubbing, though.  You can count on me to find every hidden root and rock out there. It was 91 degrees when I returned home, but I finished. In the 2nd picture you can see Ken Caryl, where I live, way down below. I didn't take my dog as it was much too hot for her.

I ended up getting a bad sunburn.  I haven't done that for years.  What a klutz.

If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won't have to hear it scream.

I read this on Facebook this morning and think it is great advice.  I've been doing this more and more.  Yesterday it told me to take a rest day and eat all the things and I did.

(This morning Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge set a new marathon world record time in Berlin of 2hrs, 1 min. and 39 seconds.....amazing)

Last night I had the opportunity to hear Golden Harper speak.  He is a noted runner, exercise physiologist, and the co-founder of Altra Running Shoes.  He comes from a family of notable runners who happen to own a running store in Orem.  His parents always ran the St George marathon every year, so at age 9 he started begging to run it as well.  Of course, they said no, but qualified that by saying he would have to prove he could do the distance.  He then ran the Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim!  At age 10 he started running St. George marathon every year, doing the rim to rim to rim run first as training.  At age 13 he broke 2:45.
His talk was on form and running injury prevention as well as on how he developed Altra shoes.  He's an amazing guy.  I told him I'd be running St George this year, and he said he'd be there, as well.
On today's run I concentrated on his tips for form.

I am strong, but I am tired.

I can't seem to get a long run done.  So I will modify this week.  I did a medium run today and will repeat that tomorrow. Keeping on keeping on.

Today completes 4 years of running at least one mile a day, so I ran 5 miles to celebrate the start of year 5.  Keeping on keeping on.

Update: Carry on, Carry on, We are shining stars, We are invincible! (just a little foolish)

Well the trail race was an.....errr....an adventure.   It was a very laid back small town race on the trail system in Highlands Ranch.  So laid back that the trails weren't marked and were changed from previous years due to nesting eagles. And I'm not familiar with Highlands Ranch trails in the first place.
So, you know me, I got lost, not just once but TWICE!  The first time I looped back to the first water stop and got directions since there were no trail markers and started that loop over again. A volunteer ran with me, and I wouldn't have seen the turns without his help even the second time as it was all on slick rock and the trail had disappeared.
Then by the last far loop I kept going and going and going, and there was no turn around.  I think the volunteer there had packed up his sign and gone home. So, so did I.
In short I ran 11 miles in a 10 mile race, mostly in solitude except for a couple of deer and a flock of wild turkeys. They saved me a pancake at the finish, but someone's dog had already eaten it! Oh, well.  I'm home.

The song of the day has to be "Carry On" by Fun.

"If you're lost and alone or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on.
May your path be the sound of your feet upon the ground and
Carry on.

Woah my head is on fire
but my legs are fine
after all they are mine........

'Cause we are
we are shining stars
we are invincible
we are who we are on our darkest day
when we're miles away
so we will come, we will find our way home.

(Be sure to turn the sound up loud for the chorus if you listen to the YouTube video below)

I have a 10 mile race this morning.  I did not sleep a wink last night.  I will not quit, but I may cuss the entire time!
