New experiences....
I enjoyed a short hike with friends before the heat of the day. On the way home I blew a tire on the expressway....a first for me. I swerved a lot but controlled the car and drove a mile to the first exit. That tire was shredded! AAA was prompt and tomorrow I go tire shopping. (I hope the rim is okay).

Brilliant...
Every time I watch I catch more detail. Being a born introvert, it really ups my stress levels, which is the point.

The Game Changers Movie is finally coming in September
I have been waiting for this for 2-3 years. Here is a link to the preview. Unfortunately I'll be out of town that weekend. I hope they show it in all theaters afterwards.

Here is a Google-talk by Dr. Justyna Sanders on living a whole-plant based life. It gives an excellent overview.

FYI
After yesterday's hike we had lunch at the Creekside Winery in Evergreen. The soup of the day was watermelon strawberry gazpacho....it was so awesome on a hot day. It has been in the 90s the past couple of days.
I googled a recipe for it and can't wait to make it at home. I just thought you may want to do the same.

I took a beautiful 2 hour hike today in Evergreen, CO at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. It had everything....blue skies, pine trees, meadows, boulders. In the bottom picture just to the left you can see a snow-capped Mount Evans in the distance. My friend Ronnie is a volunteer park guide for Jefferson County and hikes often in all the parks. She knows all the trails.

It's about time....
Doctors may soon be prescribing vegetables instead of drugs to prevent disease.

The benefits and disadvantages of walking with a dog
I never would have noticed this coyote watching us if Charleigh-dog hadn't stopped on the trail and refused to walk further. Of course, if I wasn't walking with a dog the coyote probably wouldn't have been there watching us! Sorry this picture was taken looking into the sun but I was juggling a pulling dog and a camera at the same time. I then got a strength workout pulling my dog away for the next quarter mile. Natural enemies do not turn their backs on one another.

I'm so glad I didn't register for today's Slacker Half marathon which runs from Loveland ski resort down to Georgetown, CO. It was only $35 for people in my age group (really cheap), and had no time limits, but I didn't know anyone else going, so chickened out. Thank Goodness for that. It is snowing up there!!!
I don't drive in snow in the mountains much less run in it.

First day of summer
See this year's baby Great Horned Owl on the ledge? It is almost full grown.
Charleigh-dog and I were about 30 yds behind another runner, a reckless one, who stopped for several minutes to commune with and videotape a large buck. They were both on the trail.
Many a trip continues long after movement in time and space have ceased. John Steinbeck
......a good quote to ponder this weekend.
Happy first day of summer.

Deer Creek Canyon hike
I hiked at Deer Creek Canyon Park this morning with friends. Note all the red rock formations way down in the middle-ground.....that is at the South Valley park where I normally hike. You can also just make out the city skyline in the haze.
Here are my awesome hiking partners....Ligi Fu, her husband Chuck, their fantastic Irish Setter/Golden Doodle mix named Chaco, and myself. We beat most of the heat and Father's Day crowds by finishing by 11AM. 6.7 miles and 1995 ft elevation gain.

An equal opportunity sport
I went to a free concert in the park yesterday evening. It was so nice just sitting in the grass, listening to amazing musicians, feeling the breeze, watching children dance and run and blow bubbles, and then seeing the sun setting beyond the mountains and reflected in the lake. It was a very sensory, mellow experience....a time to forget all else going on in the world and to imagine that all will be fine.
The future will be better tomorrow........Dan Quayle

Climate change could end human civilization by 2050
Please take note! I plan on living at least that long, and want my kids and grandkids to do the same.

This man has run every single day for 50 years, breaking the American record
He's run with broken bones, shingles, and other injuries. He's scheduled for carotid artery surgery later this year. He doesn't know if he can run through it, but he plans to try.

Revel Rockies update
It was a gorgeous race....cold at the start, hot at the finish. Beautiful scenery. (A nice touch....glowsticks taped inside the portapotties at the start....so nice to be able to see while it was still dark out. No one wants to use their phone for light in a portapotty).
My race results. Ehhh, I'll take them I walked the uphills. Stopped and took photos. Maybe I should actually train for this next year. The fastest marathoners started passing me around mile 7 or 8. Not sure if that is inspirational or demoralizing.
PS, no more races to bore you with for awhile, only 2 short runs in July....the 5 K Donor Dash supporting organ donation, and the inaugural Wonder Woman run in downtown Denver.....can't wait to see thousands of people dressed as Wonder Women! I don't really like racing in the heat.
