Today's hike: Devil's Head Fire Tower

Devils Head Fire Tower is the only still operational fire tower in Colorado.  It is near Sedalia and is 100 years old.  The views were stunning.  The hike ends at the 143 stairs leading up to the tower.  Those who know me know my fear of heights.  I was able to do the first few turns on the stairs, but pictures don't show the stairs near the top hanging over open air.  None of us actually made the full stair climb.  It was scary. But the beautiful day, the aroma of the pines, the aspen grove, and the views made it all worth while.  All told, we climbed close to 1000 feet in elevation. (and no exploding tires on the way home from this hike like last time).

A sudden hailstorm came through.....it started out small with marble sized hail but soon turned into golf-ball sized hail.....a very noisy storm.  Who needs fireworks.

update, I spoke too soon about the fireworks. Someone in my neighborhood shot off really loud fireworks for 2 hours last night absolutely terrifying my dog. She was trembling and desperate to get away to anywhere at all. I had to leash her, lie on the floor with her, and hold her for those 2 hours.  She was panting faster than I've ever heard and scratching at doors, but there was no hiding from that noise.  Thanks so much for that whoever you blankety-blank are.  At least you stopped by 11pm.

I am trying.  I have to, correction, I get to go mow my lawn. But I do love sea turtles.

Note....the year is officially half over and I am 200 miles short of halfway to my run goal of running 2019 miles in 2019.  I'm at 820.7. If I count my 271 miles of walking so far this year, I'm okay, but that is cheating, in my mind.  I just calculated that I would have to run 6.6 miles every single day, (46.2 miles every week) to complete this challenge.  Not going to happen. I'll just have to keep on keeping on.
