Devils Head Fire Tower is the only still operational fire tower in Colorado. It is near Sedalia and is 100 years old. The views were stunning. The hike ends at the 143 stairs leading up to the tower. Those who know me know my fear of heights. I was able to do the first few turns on the stairs, but pictures don't show the stairs near the top hanging over open air. None of us actually made the full stair climb. It was scary. But the beautiful day, the aroma of the pines, the aspen grove, and the views made it all worth while. All told, we climbed close to 1000 feet in elevation. (and no exploding tires on the way home from this hike like last time).
