Please don't pet me, I'm working.

Last week we took service-dogs-in-training to the Littleton Museum.  They have a living history farm which was great practice for the dogs.  Peacocks and turkeys were wandering loose.  There were all sorts of farm animals and chickens in pens.  Also, the usual squirrels and bunnies made an appearance. It was a hot day and we all sought whatever shade we could, but it was a lot of fun. The dogs all behaved perfectly but were curious about the animals.
We ended the day with a sack-lunch picnic at a nearby park where we rested in the shade of a huge blooming linden.
That's me in the red visor and white sleeves with sweet little dog Dunny.

Showing off our new red shirts

Never again, again.

Hero or villain

Here are  links to interesting articles I read this week.

The first is about broccoli sprouts.  I eat broccoli sprouts most days as they are easy to sprout on my kitchen counter.  That is about the extent of my "gardening."  It is good to read all the articles about their health benefits.  http://sportsgeezer.com/2014/broccoli-drink-flushes-two-toxins-from-your-body/

The second article predicts a vegan America by 2050.  It sounds like we are well on our way.  It is titled: "No Lie Can Live Forever."  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kathy-stevens/predicting-a-vegan-america_b_4905691.html

Last,  a great article on why Americans are overweight.  http://www.alternet.org/personal-health/unexpected-reason-americans-are-overweight?

The Oatmeal

The Oatmeal, aka Matthew Inman, was in town last weekend for Denver's Comic-Con. My daughter and I got to hear him talk at the Dinosaur After Party at the Dino Hotel (Best Western Denver Southwest).  It was a lot of fun. We really enjoyed it and also seeing the amazing Dino Hotel owned by my neighbors Greg and Meredith Tally.
To see more of The Oatmeal's work, if you aren't familiar with it, here is the link:
http://theoatmeal.com/  I am anxious to read his newest book which is about running.  I should mention that he is also an ultra-runner and is putting on his own marathon this fall in Seattle.  He is an interesting guy.
Here is a link for the Dino Hotel.  Go stay with them if you get the chance, especially if you have dinosaur fans in your family.  The Tally family are all dinosaur experts and have amazing fossils on display.

Family

I thought this was cute and a nice thought for the weekend.  Much of my family is meeting tomorrow in another state with relatives from Sweden, which is where my Grandfather came from.

Because I say so...........

I am a runner because I run. Not because I run fast. Not because I run far.
I am a runner because I say I am. And no one can tell me I’m not.
Waddle on, friends.

"The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different." -Hippocrates

I had to share pictures of Esther the Wonder Pig and her family.  They are raising funds to start an animal sanctuary.  Go to their Facebook page Esther the Wonder Pig or their website www.estherthewonderpig.com to help, or to see more pictures of the beautiful Esther.

There is a reason you take your children to pick apples, fruits and vegetables - but don't take them to a slaughterhouse - make the connection.

Today I woke up happy, healthy and loved. What more could I possibly need.
I can''t help but wonder "why me?" We're all the same so how did I get set free while the rest stayed behind trapped and afraid asking the very same question. "Why me?"
When it hurts to look backwards and you're afraid to look ahead, look beside you and your best friend will be right there.

A good morning kiss.

Words of wisdom

Here is an interesting bit of history about eating whole-food, plant-based.  It has been around for a long time.

http://www.vegsource.com/news/2014/06/the-mormon-word-of-wisdom-an-1833-guide-to-a-whole-food-plant-based-diet.html

Last week was stormy and tornado-y.  On Sunday I went to a painting party at the home of an artist-friend. It was a fun activity for a rainy afternoon since the tornado warnings had moved on beyond our location and we only had to deal with rain.
How can something that looks so simple be so difficult?  When I was five or six I remember being a pretty fair artist. I have a new appreciation for art.
