Change your environment

I found this thought-provoking.  Change is hard.  Change anyway.

Obesity is the result of people responding normally to the obesogenic environment they find themselves in.
The above quote is from the Lancet.  It rings true.  We live in an extremely obesogenic environment.
What we need to be saved from is an environment unlike anything any living thing has experienced in 4 billion years of evolution

Is this our future?  Human dystopia:

Get angry. Rebel. You don't need to mindlessly follow what media suggests or what others do, or what "people have always done."  The industrial complex is deceiving you because you are their bread and butter. They do not want you to change.  Change anyway. Do what is best for you.

Drink more water.....please.

When there are droughts and we have serious water scarcity concerns, how we can justify continuing to consume animal products, which are so very wasteful of water to produce? Please remember that dairy (meaning dairy-derived milk, cream, ice cream, cheese, yogurt, etc.) is not a harmless byproduct.

"My microbiome made me do it."

Our microbiome is made of the 100 trillion bacteria and microbes within our bodies. They outnumber our own cells 10 to one,  some estimates say 100 to one.  Now there is thought that they influence our actions. They are the puppet-masters and we are the puppets.  100 trillion microbes can be very manipulative!

I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way.

This is the answer to "what am I going to be when I grow up?", to which I still have no answer.  The key is that.it is the journey, not the destination, which is to be enjoyed.

It is now undeniable!

     The days are noticeably shorter.

The crab apples have turned red.  Soon they will fall to the ground and herds of deer will be fattening themselves with them in their preparation for the winter to come.

The rose-hips are ripened and replace the beauty of the roses.

Blooming autumn flowers, such as these gayfeathers, abound.

     The wild poppies are stunning.

The mullein is taller than me.

And, best of all, everything smells of sunshine and sage.

Sentimental Saturday

This is an unusual post from the Oatmeal, but I like it.  It seems appropriate after reading all the news.

GotTurmeric?

Turmeric has been in the health news a lot lately.  Here are links to 2 cool articles about it.  The first is about the efficacy of turmeric over drugs.  The second suggests ways to add turmeric to your diet.  It inspired me to make a red lentil coconut sweet potato curry last night....one of my favorites. Yum.

Autumn approaches, seize the day.

Summer is nearing its end.  There are cars at the elementary school again.  Teachers are preparing for the next term which starts Monday.  Grasshoppers abound.  The fawns are big enough to wander without their Mom, but they still have their spots.  Cute, aren't they?

Georgetown Idaho Springs half marathon 8-9-14

Last Saturday I ran the Georgetown Idaho Springs Half with 2 friends.  It was a great day but a hard run at altitude.  The race starts at 8500 feet elevation and ends at 7500 feet.  It follows I 70 and Clear Creek down.  It became difficult for me at mile 11.
I finished in 2:46:01......12.67 min/mile.  My 10k split was 1:17.  I need to work on that.
37 degrees at 6 AM at Georgetown Lake at 6 AM
