Bye-Bye trails. I will really miss you. Hello sidewalks.
There is a beautiful open-space county park by my house, but it is filled with coyotes last year and this. I'm glad they put up warning signs. My dog is always leashed. What we need is to have the coyotes leashed, too.
I thought I'd try a little of this trail today as trails are so much more scenic and easier on the body than constant running on sidewalks. We went half a mile through the red rocks and by the reservoir on Swallow Trail (which needs to be called "Beware of Angry Nesting Canada Geese" trail.") We turned a corner and there was a coyote standing directly next to the trail. These coyotes are inured to hikers and have absolutely no fear of people or dogs or horses. They do not leave, at least not for a lone runner with a lone leashed dog. The problem is that my dog wants to get them in the worst way....even more than she wants to get geese, prairie dogs, foxes, and even squirrels; and that's a lot of wanting. I have to immediately retrace my steps dragging this 70 pound squirming pulling dog. It ruins the run. Bye, bye trails. I will miss you. It will be sidewalks here on out.
